Health-food store on WooCommerce

Almacén Saludable is a health-food store in Rosario, Argentina, run by nutritionists. I’m the only engineer on its WooCommerce store: a custom block theme, 16 small plugins and the tooling to change a live shop safely. I work with Claude Code: I set the approach and the tests, and review every change before it ships.
What I built
- Selling by weight: loose goods are sold in decimal kilos, matching how the ERP models them, with a WP-CLI command to manage them.
- A delivery zone traced from OpenStreetMap streets. Addresses are geocoded with Georef, the Argentine government’s free address API, and cached because the checkout recalculates shipping on every form change.
- Fixed a live bug where free shipping covered the whole province: a cart bound for a town 160 km away was offered free delivery.
- Pickup with a 10% cash discount, bank transfer handed off to WhatsApp, and order emails translated into Spanish.
- Staff tools in the admin, such as changing a product photo from Quick Edit and a photo finder for products that had none.
ERP and catalogue data
- The ERP asked only for completed orders and moved its cursor one hour per hourly poll, so it never caught up. I rewrote its requests on the way in, without touching any order or sending customers a false “on its way” email.
- Cleared only the affected cached pages when the ERP changes a price, and added a switch that stops the ERP from overwriting stock.
- Repaired 108 SKUs that a spreadsheet had mangled, so the ERP could match products again. The script defaults to a dry run, writes a rollback file and goes through WooCommerce’s own APIs.
- Moved 180 products out of a catch-all category after the client reviewed a suggestions sheet. It went from 207 products to 13.
Performance and reliability
- Removed a 307 redirect that fired on every URL, Googlebot’s included, and turned on page caching: server response went from 1,680 ms to about 134 ms, measured in production.
- Made the delivery/pickup toggle answer in about 200 ms instead of 1,887 ms by removing a race between two requests and a hidden one-second debounce. A 25-case test covers it.
- Fixed a checkout that was clipped on every phone narrower than 430 px. Overflow checks reported the page clean, so I measured element positions instead.
- Wrote a deploy runbook with backups, dry-run syncs and rollback, built from real incidents, and hardened the local Docker copy after a container wiped the working tree.
